Two Huge Nights of Racing to Close Out Season This Weekend

After being cancelled due to rain last weekend, 81 Speedway in Park City is set to close out the 2013 race season in a huge way as the tracks annual Wix Filters/Bumper to Bumper Fall Classic has turned into a doubleheader weekend this Friday and Saturday night highlighted by the National Championship Racing Association modified and 360-ci sprint car divisions.

The series modified and 360-ci sprint car divisions will also see who will become 2013 champion in their respective divisions.

It all kicks off on Friday night with two sets of heat races for the NCRA modified division as well as the tracks weekly divisions of street stocks, thumpers and hornets. After the two sets of heat races are concluded the top twenty drivers in heat race finishing and passing points will run a qualifying “A” feature. The top ten drivers in the qualifying feature will be locked into Saturday night’s championship “A” feature finale.

Then on Saturday night the “winged warriors” of the NCRA 360-ci sprint car division will take part in a complete show consisting of heat races, last chance feature and $2000 to win championship feature. The NCRA modified division as well as the street stocks, hornets and thumpers will compete in last chance features with the top ten drivers in those advancing to their respective feature finales.

Two-time and defending tour modified champion Marc Hurd looks to claim his third championship in a row and will come into the night with a 95 point advantage over Dustin Belcher, who moved into the runner up position in points after last weekend. Belcher is winless this year and looks to not only over take Marc in the point standings but pick up that elusive victory as well.

The lone “Sooner State” contender, A.J. Brochu of Enid, still has a shot and sits 105 points out of the lead.

Filling out the top ten in the point standings and drivers who have made all eleven shows that have been completed thus far include: Dan Powers, Josh Lanterman, Jason McGehee, Don Hodge, Jon Thompson, Justin Moler and Jimmy Brozek.

Thirty-four drivers competed last weekend and that count is expected to be the same for this season finale that pays $1000 to win.

In NCRA sprint car action, C.J. Johnson of Quinter, Kansas will look to “three-peat” the tour championship and become a fourth-time overall champion. He will come into the night with a 75 point advantage over former tour champion Jeremy Campbell of Wichita. Both drivers have picked up one tour victory on the season. Johnson’s came back in May at RPM Speedway in Hays, Kansas while Campbell’s came at 81 Speedway back in early May.

With it a two-car battle for the point championship, positions three and four in the point standings is also a two-car race. Jon Freeman currently holds down third by just 45 points over Kingman’s Jeff Stasa. J.D. Johnson looks to have the fifth position locked in by drawing in for the night’s races while injured Mike Peters will hope to claim the sixth position in the standings.
