McAninch another New NCRA Modified Winner/Hurd Claims Title

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Park City, Kansas – October 20, 2012 - Ryan McAninch started on the pole and was never seriously challenged and became the tenth different driver to reach victory lane in ten feature events as he claimed the season finale for the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products modified division Saturday night during “Wix Filters/Bumper to Bumper Fall Classic” night at 81 Speedway in Park City.

While McAninch was busy claiming his second career NCRA victory, Marc Hurd laid claim to his second division championship.

McAninch took the lead at the start of the twenty-five lap feature and quickly jumped ahead of outside front row starter Tyler Davis as the green flag fell. The features only caution flag would fall with one lap in the books when Bob Bills spun to a stop at the top of turn two.

The final restart saw McAninch pull away from Davis as the green flag fell and quickly opened up a half stretch lead by lap five. Davis, Brian Franz and Jon Thompson waged battle for the runner up position while the leader kept a torrid pace, entering lapped traffic on lap ten.

It didn’t slow the Wichita driver as he continued out front unchallenged. With just five laps to go it looked as though that would all change as a couple more lapped cars made it difficult for McAninch to dispose of, allowing Davis to cut the lead down to five car lengths. However, McAninch would soon dispose of both lapped cars, splitting both cars entering turn one with two laps to go.

From there it was smooth sailing as he led the rest of the way and would take the ten car length victory. Davis would hold on to the runner up spot as well as the runner up position in the season ending point standings. Franz came home third while Hurd claimed fourth and the championship. Jon Thompson capped off his rookie season with the series with a fifth place finish and the tour’s rookie of the year honors.

The eight lap heat races for the 36 car field were won by Franz, Thompson, Dan Powers and Davis. The six lap “C” feature was won by Kirby Robe while Josh Lanterman wired the field in the ten lap “B” feature.

This event puts a wrap on the fifteenth consecutive season for the NCRA modified division and Hurd, along with the rest of the top ten in final point standings, will be officially recognized at the series year end banquet at the end of January. Details will be forthcoming.
