RECAP OF 2013 AWARDS BANQUET
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Midwest City, Oklahoma – February 7, 2014 - The 43rdseason for the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products officially came to a close recently as 2013 champions competing in the tours five divisions as well as the top ten in final point standings were crowned at the Cotillion Ballroom in downtown Wichita, Kansas.
After attendees finished their dinner, the first group honored was the runner up rookie of the year drivers in the series sport mod, modified and late model divisions.
In the sport mod division, Ada, Oklahoma veteran Steve Little spent time on the road with the tour and took home runner up rookie honors while Jimmy Brozek (modified) and Jeremy Petty claimed those honors in their division.
Next on the agenda was rookie of the year honor’s in the above mentioned divisions. They were Kenny Morris (sport mod), Jason McGehee (modified) and Jacob MaGee.
Most improved driver honors went to Courtney McCartney (sport mod) and A.J. Brochu (modified).
It was then time for the “NCRA 5 Year Top Ten Club” for drivers who finished in the top ten the past five years. Those were received by former sport mod champion Todd Decker, sprint car veteran Mike Peters and three-time modified champion Marc Hurd.
It was then time for the “Steve King Foundation Sportsmanship Award with 2013 honors going to Lee Martin, car owner of the #e85 sprinter driven by C.J. Johnson.
For the first time since he received serious injuries sustaining from a hard crash at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool, Nebraska back in September, Peters addressed the audience and stated doctors orders have him still in physical therapy and will not be behind the wheel of a sprint car again until September of this year.
The final top ten in NCRA sport mod points were then honored. They were (from 10thto 3rd); Chad McNamara, Courtney McCartney, Steve Little, Chris Lyons, Bobby McGehee, Kenny Morris, Ross McCartney and Cleo Adams.
The NCRA modified tenth through third drivers in point standings were next. They included: Ross Shipman, Jimmy Brozek, Jon Thompson, Don Hodge, Dan Powers, Jason McGehee, Josh Lanterman and Dustin Belcher.
Then came the series 360-ci sprint car division. Ninth through third honored were: Wyatt Burks, Danny Wood, Marc Robe, Mike Peters, J.D. Johnson, Jeff Stasa and Jon Freeman.
It was then time to honor those drivers who were runner up in all five divisions. They were Ryan Secrest/Secrest Motorsports car owner (mod lite), Todd Decker/Sandy Decker car owner (sport mod), Jimmy Seagraves/Brad Miller car owner (late model), A.J. Brochu/A.J. Brochu car owner (modified) and Jeremy Campbell/Dwight Schroeder car owner (sprint car).
It was then time for the 2013 NCRA Champions to be crowned. Those who were crowned champion; in their respective divisions were:
Justin Kinderknecht with Galen Unruh car owner (mod lites)
Tour rookie of the year Jacob Magee/Jacob Magee car owner (late model)
Mark Harrison/Mark Harrison car owner with special thanks to Dale Lewis, Walt O’Dell, Luanne and Glenn Weterberg
Marc Hurd claimed his third tour championship and second consecutive in the modified division with him as car owner.
Wrapping up the evening’s NCRA awards banquet, C.J. Johnson claimed his fourth overall tour championship in the sprint car division, this time Lee Martin as car owner.
